The beneficial reuse and recycling of source segregated solid wastes, where appropriate, prevents the unnecessary waste and depletion of the natural resources of the State and preserves the limited and finite capacity of the State’s solid waste landfills. The process by which the DEM will review a request to recycle a specific source segregated solid waste not already defined as “recyclable material” is referred to as a Beneficial Use Determination (BUD).
