Brownfields Remediation and Economic Development Fund

This fund offers competitive reimbursement grants for site assessment and/or remediation costs to support the revitalization and reuse of former brownfields, benefiting the local economy, surrounding community, and environment.

Applications are now open for the 2026 round of Brownfields Bond grant funding!

Approximately $2.5 million is now available for eligible projects through the Brownfields Remediation and Economic Development Fund. This is the first funding availability from the $5 million voter-approved 2024 Green Economy Bond. DEM is seeking project proposals that will support the clean up of contaminated property to transform underused brownfield sites into locations that add value to RI’s communities. Government, private, and nonprofit entities are eligible to apply.

This grant round will focus on expanding housing development throughout RI. Redevelopment and reuse plans that support local communities by providing affordable and/or market-rate housing will be scored favorably.

SUBMIT APPLICATIONS TO DEM.BROWNFIELDBG@DEM.RI.GOV BY 4:00 PM ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2026.

The RFP and application form are posted above. The RFP contains the grant fund guidelines, eligibility information, and scoring criteria for this grant round. The RFP, application, and scoring criteria are updated each round, so please be sure to review all current instructions and guidelines carefully prior to completing an application.

The RFP opened on November 2, 2026. All final proposals and supporting materials are due by 4:00 PM on Friday, December 11, 2026, and must be submitted electronically to DEM.BrownfieldBG@dem.ri.gov. Should there be any updates regarding the RFP or application, an announcement will be posted to this webpage, and an email will be sent to the Brownfields Bond mailing list (subscribe to the mailing list).
