Quarterly Climate Reports NCEI's Eastern Region Climate Services provide data, tools, and information to help organizations, decision makers, and the general public address and mitigate the effects of climate variability and change. The Eastern Region of the US (Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia) has four of the Nation’s 10 largest metropolitan areas, three of the top five U.S. ports based on the value of fish landed, and five of the Nation's top 20 ports based on international cargo volume. These features make it one of the most climate-vulnerable. Heavily populated coastal areas, aging infrastructure, and the nation's oldest marine fishery are a few major examples of the challenges that communities are responding to across the region.
