Upland Unit

Protecting Rhode Island's Natural Resources
The Upland Unit is comprised of eight districts led by a Lieutenant and two Sergeants with Upland officers assigned to a district. Upland officers serve across Rhode Island’s inland areas, patrolling state parks, wildlife management areas, rivers, and ponds by boat, ATV, patrol vehicle, e-bike, and on foot. They enforce freshwater fishing and hunting regulations statewide and conduct investigations into hunting and inland boating accidents.
These officers also uphold boating safety laws on all inland waters and ensure compliance with regulations in state parks, campgrounds, and management areas. Their duties extend to responding to suspected rabies cases involving humans and domestic animals, assisting wildlife in distress, and leading inland search and rescue operations.
