Virtual Public Workshop re: Draft Mashapaug Watershed General Permit

DEM is introducing a new general permit using its Residual Designation Authority to cover stormwater runoff in the Mashapaug Watershed, which includes Mashapaug, Spectacle, and Tongue Ponds in the Cities of Cranston and Providence, that aren't currently regulated under existing permits.

This virtual workshop offers property owners, the public, and other stakeholders the opportunity to learn about and provide feedback on the draft permit. The permit would apply to properties in the watershed with one acre or more of hard surfaces, such as pavement or rooftops, that drain to local waterways. A formal public commenting period will follow.

Pre-registration is required for the virtual workshop, which will be recorded and available for viewing at https://dem.ri.gov/mashapaug-stormwater

An in-person workshop is also planned for Thursday, July 31, 2025, 6:00 pm-7:30 pm at the Cranston Senior Center. Both workshops will be identical in content and will include time for questions and answers. Subscribe to our email list to be notified of updates on this topic.

Please note that these workshops are RIDEM events and are not affiliated with the Cities of Cranston or Providence.
