Rhode Island EMA and DEM Announce Drone Restrictions as Aerial Figefighting Operations Continue Combatting the West Greenwich Fire

CRANSTON, RI, April 13, 2023 – The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RI DEM) today requested members of the public and media agencies halt all drone operations around the West Greenwich brush fire during the day today. The Rhode Island National Guard is scheduled to continue dropping water on the fire and the safety of all personnel involved is of the utmost priority.

Local, state and out-of-state agencies and crews are continuing to fight the fire that was initially called in just before 1:00 pm yesterday. Elevated fire weather conditions continue today.
