DEM Announces Temporary Parking Lot Closure at Salty Brine State Beach During Annual Blessing of the Fleet Celebration Published on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 PROVIDENCE, RI – The Department of Environment Management (DEM) is announcing that the parking lot at Salty Brine State Beach in Narragansett will be temporarily closed on Saturday, July 29, from 8:30 AM until 1 PM during the Narragansett Lions Club’s 51st annual Blessing of the Fleet celebration. This is an annual closure for this event. During this time, the parking lot will be closed but the beach will remain open. The parking lot will reopen after 1 PM. First held by the Narragansett Lions Club in 1972, the Blessing of the Fleet has grown into a beloved multi-day celebration that includes a road race, a festive parade of boats, great food, live music, and people by the thousands making wonderful new memories. This colorful event features a parade of decorated commercial and recreational watercraft. A local clergyman blesses each vessel as they pass as the spectators along the breachway wave and cheer them on. Annually, this free event allows the public to learn more about the Port of Galilee, the fishing industry, and the fleet who call the port home. For more information and a complete listing of Blessing of the Fleet events, please visit narragansettlionsclub.org. For more information on DEM programs and initiatives, visit www.dem.ri.gov. Follow DEM on Facebook, Twitter (@RhodeIslandDEM), or Instagram (@rhodeisland.dem) for timely updates. Tiny yet popular, Salty Brine State Beach allows beachgoers to enjoy close up views of fishing boats and ferries going by.
