RIDE, URI SNAP-Ed, Farm Fresh RI, Johnson and Wales University, and the RI Healthy Schools Coalition are currently collaborating on a USDA Team Nutrition Training Grant Project to leverage the impact of the SNAP-Ed’s Students Take Charge Program. As part of this effort, an annual culinary training will be held to support schools in adapting culturally diverse student submitted recipes for food service.

The Students Take Charge Culinary Workshop will provide hands-on sessions for school nutrition professionals to incorporate culturally relevant recipes created by Rhode Island students. Additionally, the culinary sessions will provide techniques to increase flavor while reducing sodium for breakfast and lunch school meal programs. Business managers are invited to attend, network, and learn how to deepen their Local Wellness Committee’s involvement in empowering students to lead the way in school meals. This workshop will share innovative strategies to enhance the student experience during school meal service and expand our communities’ access to nutritious, culturally connected foods.
