RIEEA 2023 Annual Summit
Rhode Island Environmental Education Association: Each year, RIEEA hosts a Summit to bring together engaged communities throughout the state and from across various sectors. Nonformal educators, classroom teachers, university/college faculty and staff, students, environmental justice advocates, as well as representatives in the health, business, agricultural, and science fields, meet to build networks, gather resources, share best practices, and cultivate leadership skills for widespread environmental literacy adoption and implementation.
The 2023 Summit, Storytelling to Connect With Your Audience, will be held Saturday, March 4 from 8am to 12pm at Rhode Island College. Our keynote speaker will be Wanda Hopkins (right). Wanda is an amazing author, educator, and storyteller, as well as a Narragansett tribal leader and member of the Native American Advisory Council at the University of Rhode Island. You can read a recent article by Wanda about land acknowledgements here.
The day’s agenda will include food, discussion, and professional development. It will begin with a delicious breakfast for all dietary needs, and many new vegan options. We will follow with our keynote address from Wanda Hopkins sharing stories, and how we can use them to better connect with our audiences. In small groups, we will practice storytelling ourselves, and discuss how it can be used as a tool in our own work. We will also have opportunities throughout the morning to connect with organizations, educators, and advocates from across the state. We’ll wrap up the summit with a raffle. We hope to see you there!
Registration includes a RIEEA membership for the year.
