Public Comment Hearing re: Future Healthcare Systems, Modification to a Medical/Solid Waste Management Facility License

In accordance with 23-18.9-9 of the Rhode Island General Laws, the Department of Environmental Management ("Department") announces its intent to issue a modification to the license to Future Healthcare Systems N.E., Inc. to continue operate a Medical Waste Transfer Station known as the Future Healthcare Systems N.E., Inc. (Future Healthcare) Medical Waste Transfer Station on 65 Industrial Circle in Lincoln, Rhode Island.



Future Healthcare submitted a request for major license modification on August 12, 2022. In its request, Future Healthcare proposed to install and operate an automated system to open, empty and disinfect reusable sharps containers. Opening medical waste containers is not an operation under its current operation as a medical waste transfer station.



The public information workshop and public comment hearing will be held through zoom on December 13, 2022 at 6:00 PM. Representatives of the Facility will be available to discuss the current facility operations as well as the proposed modifications. Representatives from the Department will be available to discuss facility operating conditions and the process to review modification requests as well as to solicit public input regarding modifications. Following the public hearing, the Department will continue to accept written comments from all interested parties on the application for an additional (30) days following the close of the hearing (until January 12, 2022, at 4:00 PM) at the following address: RIDEM/OLR&SMM, 235 Promenade Street, Providence, RI 02908 or by email at yan.li@dem.ri.gov. The Department's final decision on the application will be made within ninety (90) days after the close of

public comment period.



The DEM will provide interpreter service to the hearing impaired, provided that a request for this service is made in writing to the above address or by calling 222-2797 (Ext. 27777529) at least forty-eight hours prior to the hearing. The Department will also host a separate hearing in Spanish if requested.
