Produce Safety Rule & RI Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Training
Two -Day Training: November 14 & 21 from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM via Zoom
Co-Hosted by the RI Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) and URI Cooperative Extension
For RI Produce Growers
This registered two-day remote training via Zoom on November 14 and 21 from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. , is approved and compliant with the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)/Produce Safety Rule (PSR). This training is also the first step for growers wanting to pursue RI Good Agriculture Practices (RIGAP) certification.
Please note that this training will be conducted in English. Currently, the Produce Safety Manual is available digitally in Korean, Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish for bilingual participants. If you cannot understand English, written or spoken, the use of translation services may be needed. If you need translation services, please email sejal@uri.edu; and she will try to connect you to resources.
In order to be eligible for the Certificate of Course Completion (proves you have taken the training), participants must be present for all course modules that will be presented over Zoom. In order to monitor this requirement, participants must have audio and video capability. If you have technical difficulty or internet connectivity issues that impact you from being present at one or more modules, you will not be eligible for the Certificate of Course Completion; and you must take the course again at a later date. A Zoom practice run will be offered to anyone who needs assistance.
You are only need to come to training once, however the training certificate stays with the person who took the training not the farm or organization.
The 'Certificate of Course Completion' proves you have taken training and does not mean you are in compliance with the Produce Safety Rule or certified as a RI GAP grower. To pursue either PSR compliance or GAP certification, you'll need to set up an educational visit with URI and then a PSR inspection or RI GAP audit with RIDEM.
The cost of this training is $45.00/RI farmer which includes the official Produce Safety Rule manual that will be mailed to you the week of Nov. 6. The Certificate of Completion will be mailed to you upon successful completion of the training. A full refund, minus a $5.00 cancellation fee, is allowed up until Nov.1 at 11:59 PM.
Registration Deadline is Nov. 3 at 11:59 PM
