Intro to Shooting Sports #NationalShootingSportsMonth (2 days)

9am-1pm both days

Do you think a magazine is something you read? Do you think a muzzle is something you put on your pet dog? Do you think an ejector is someone who throws disorderly people out of a private party?

Geared towards beginners and a great refresher for the more experienced, learn about firearms, ammunition, and most importantly, safety.

This two-part class will include classroom learning on the first day and live fire on the second at Rhode Island DEM’s outdoor gun range, The Great Swamp Shooting Range.

The course is of no charge, funded from federal funding via the Pittman Robertson Act. If you have ear and eye protection, please bring it as a limited supply will be available. All other equipment is provided. Please do not bring your own. Portable toilet on site. Students are strongly encouraged to bring their own lunch, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and tick and bug spray. The shooting range is entirely outdoors, with a roof covering the shooting benches. The shotgun “trap” range is entirely outdoors.

The Great Swamp Shooting Range is a no-charge, public range, available to use 7 days a week, April through September, with a free permit. Permit applications and detailed information will be available in the class.
