Earth Month at URI: Faculty Office Hour: John Taylor, Sustainable Food Production
April is Earth Month at URI!
Here’s how you can celebrate!
Every aspect of our lives impacts sustainability: what we eat, our commute to school/work, what we buy, how we brush our teeth! At URI, the definition of sustainability put into practice focuses on the balance of the Environment, the Economy, and social Equity. The 3 E’s have to intersect equally, with no one aspect more important than the other. As you reflect on what YOU can do to celebrate Earth Month this year, we hope you can take advantage of the following resources and participate in as many events as possible.
John Taylor, M.L.A., Ph.D., assistant professor of agroecology in the Department of Plant Sciences and Entomology discusses the changing landscape (literally) of sustainable food production in Rhode Island. Not only will you learn about his exciting vision for local food production, you might come away with practical ideas for transforming your own garden into a self-supporting, food-producing ecosystem.
