Science Advisory Committee

Purpose & Activities

In accordance with RIGL 46-31-9, the BRWCT shall establish a Science Advisory Committee (SAC) to advise the Coordination Team on "research priorities, technical matters, and best management practices." The SAC shall be comprised of members of the academic community as well as non-government organizations and shall assist the BRWCT and the state as follows:

  • Ensure that peer review is employed in the development by the RI Environmental Monitoring Collaborative of a comprehensive statewide environmental monitoring strategy;
  • Provide the BRWCT with unbiased reviews of current validated scientific knowledge relevant to its work; and
  • Assist with the review of Systems-Level Plan and annual work plans.

In the spring of 2014, the BRWCT agreed to work in partnership with the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program to establish a Science Advisory Committee for Narragansett Bay that would serve the science advisory needs of both the BRWCT and the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program. Information on the new Narragansett Bay Science Advisory Committee may be found at: nbep.org/index.html.
