FIRE BAN IN EFFECT In response to the continued elevated risk of wildfires, DEM has issued a fire ban at all State Parks, campgrounds, and management areas until further notice. The ban is effective as of today (10/28/24) and includes campfires in designated campfire areas, including charcoal fires and cooking fires. This preventative measure applies to all DEM-managed lands and aims to reduce the threat of human-caused wildfires. DEM will continue to monitor and evaluate conditions to determine when the ban can be lifted. Together we can protect our communities and keep first responders safe by reducing the risk of wildfires: 📞 Call 911 if you spot a fire/smoke. Timely information is critical to contain fires before they spread. 🔥 Remember, any outdoor fire is a potential source for a wildfire. Be careful with cigarettes and ashes. When disposing of wood stove ashes, put the ashes in a metal bucket of water. 🚒 Check with your local fire department for any other restrictions and permitting information. 🚨 Stay informed and find resources at dem.ri.gov/wildfirestatus.

Everyone who sent us their passport will be receiving a gift certificate for a 2020 RI State Parks State Beach Season Pass! While the summer is a wonderful time to visit our state’s parks and beaches, please keep in mind that most are open year-round and offer great opportunities for you and your family to get outdoors! The Rhode Island Great Outdoors Pursuit is a summer-long program to help reconnect children and their families with the great outdoors and to encourage physical activity in Rhode Island’s state parks and natural areas Here's How It Works: Register you and your family. You will receive an email where you can download a Great Outdoors Pursuit Passport (Kids under 18 only; one per child) Visit the Events page for up-to-date schedules and adventures and follow the Facebook page for the latest news. Some adventures you will do on your own and some will be organized or led by DEM or our partners between June 1, 2019 and August 18, 2019. Your child will earn a sticker for each event or challenge in which they participate. We’ll let you know how or where to get your sticker. Then, by August 25, 2019, simply upload your passport to a link that we’ll send you in August. The number of stickers that you earned will determine which of our raffles you’ll be entered into. Watch our Facebook Live drawing on Wednesday, August 28 to see who wins. Winners will also be posted on our website.
